Summary

Dofygate is supplied under the brand Sentrigate by Hardstaff Barriers, part of Hill & Smith Infrastructure. Discover how Sentrigate’s automatic, solar-powered gates transformed traffic management during the ambitious expansion of Oxford Station, ensuring seamless operations and safety for commuters and construction crews alike.

Challenges and Solutions

Challenges

Oxford Station is a critical hub for commuters, travelers, and businesses. To accommodate increasing passenger numbers, Network Rail initiated a project to expand the station with a new platform and a western entrance. Managed by Kier and procured through Sunbelt Rentals, the project faced significant traffic management challenges. The closure of Botley Road at the rail bridge required an efficient traffic control system to handle 15 buses per hour and increased construction traffic safely.

Solutions

Kier chose Sentrigate’s advanced automatic barriers for traffic management. These solar-powered gates provided a superior alternative to traditional traffic lights. Four automatic barriers were strategically placed at key points around the junction of Botley Road and Cripley Road. A single traffic marshal, using a remote control, managed all four gates from a secure location, ensuring quick and efficient traffic management. The gates served as both physical and visual checkpoints, enhancing traffic discipline.

Benefits and Achievements

Benefits & Achievements

The deployment of Dofygate’s solar-powered gates significantly improved traffic flow and reduced the risk of accidents. Traffic marshals could perform their duties efficiently and safely, while buses and construction vehicles operated seamlessly, minimizing disruptions.

Rapid Deployment

The gates’ ease of storage and rapid deployment ensured no obstruction, with the barriers quickly set up each morning.
